TGIF!!!! (bout freaking time)
So, it's finally Friday. Work has been ok so far but it's quite a change going from butt sitting to babby sitting. For those that dont know I'm helping out in the daycare at the Native Friendship Center. It's pretty sweet cause I get a 2 hour nap time but some of the kids can be a handful and much to my dismay you're apparently not allowed to give em a good boot in the butt. The people I work with are fine it's just a bit of an adjustment working with a bunch of Native ladies talking about going to karaoke and bingo. We'll find common ground some time, or not, whatever.
So far there's two people going home in the house (one as of just now) so that leaves us with....10? i think. It'll be weird if/when we get new people. Apparently if that happens it'll be some time in early November.
OOOO we went to the Shania Twain centre the other day as a house. That was, well....interesting to say the least. Busts of Shania everywhere!! and apparently she's huge in Japan. who knew!? We also went on the Timmins Gold Mine tour that same day. That was most excellent. We got suited up in hip waders and hard hats and were carted some 600 feet under Timmins. It was pretty awesome I gotta say. Maybe mining's in my future?
All in all, it's been pretty ok so far, no major quarrels to speak of, I'm keeping busy which helps keep my mind off of home. That said, I do get kinda sad when all the kids' moms come to pick them up at the end of the day. .....where's my mom!?
oh yea, it's already winter here. We got 5 cms of snow last night and apparently another 10 or so tonight. It's only around -5 so it's not so bad...yet.
I took a sick day yesterday. I ended up sleeping from 7:30am to about 5 in the pm, so it was good I stayed home, I would have been useless at work. Today went well though, I'm on the mend.
anywho, until next time.

The calm before the storm
Welp, I start work next week at the Timmins Native Friendship Center next week and right now I'm just sitting on the couch downstairs catching up on a missed episode of House. Brent the PL is took off for the night so we'll see what people get up to. I might hit up the gym tonight but it's really expensive, so we'll see if I actually get a membership. People in the house arent really bugging me that much. I mean, there's one or two annoying people that's to be expected. Sophie, the francophone chick I got along with bailed on the group and went home this morning. We were all kinda bummed to see her go but that's life I guess.
Ummmm....the people (the girls especially) in my house have quite interesting tastes in music. Bands like Nickleback and Blink 182 are constantly playing, much to my dismay. The Timmins library is pretty sweet though, they have a whole classics section with stuff I've been wanting to read, which is cool. I really, really, like the PL so far. He's super chill and puts up with all kinds of crap that we do.
I have yet to check out the bar scene here as I'm the only person of age right now which is kinda lame but I might saunter down to Albert's later tonight, we'll see.
I miss all ya'll. Someone pet my cat for me.

"My pee is heevaporating!!"
Oh Les Francophones, je t'aime. As well as being fascinated by the miracle of evaporation, the French also loved to fool around with pronounciations. Par Example, the town of Cochrane shall now be reffered to as Cockring. J'aller au Cock-ring. epic.
Other goings on that have happened in the first week include a ridiculously successful Thanksgiving dinner, despite our oven crapping out an hour into cooking. Also, apparently it didnt take long for the first injury to occur-- Diane's at the hospital with the PL (project leader) cause she links she sprained/broke her ankle. I thought running on ice could be a bad idea. I hope she'll be ok though, roughed up ankles can be really annoying.
Interviews for volunteer placements happen later in the week, so that's kinda exciting.
I'm house manager for week 5, which is cool cause I'll have time to plan out my menu. I was thinking perogies. mmmmmm
OO!! Apparently I'm the only Anglophone who even speaks a word of French! Zut Alors!!
uhmmmmm....what else has gone on this first week? Computer time is evidently really hard to come by as most (ok 3) people in my group are facebook and MSN obsessed. (Apparently people still use MSN??)
Dolphins won the Monday nighter but of course I wasnt allowed to go and watch the game. They're real realy strict about this "no tv" thing, which is kinda good I guess.
We'll have wireless internet set up in the house later this week.
so until then,
au tonto

No TV and no beer make Adam something something...
Apparently there's no TV in the Katimavik house. Thaaaaat'll go over well. I'm doing my best to scope out all the free "watch House online cause hulu.com is lame and doesnt work in Canader" websites. So far I've only found one :/
That said, I'm kinda excited to see how I can get on without watching tv for some length of time.
I'm still trying to figure out what the heck I'm going to do for my 11 hour bus ride up to Timmins though. Oh yea, get this....it's supposed to SNOW in Timmins on Thursday. $20 says it'll be warmer in the NWT.
anywho, until next time,
adios
